EXAMPLES OF CHROMATIC NOTATION FOR MODERN LYRES - IV.
No need to introduce Johann Sebastian Bach and his Prelude I. in C major from “Das Wohltemperirte Clavier”... Here it is in chromatic notation for modern lyre. Note, that the example includes the optional distinction of natural, sharp and flat notes by three different notehead angles. The noteheads of sharp notes are rised from left to right, flats are lowered. All noteheads of natural notes remain unslanted. Although such a differentiation is not necessary for playing it on a lyre which uses a tempered tuning, it makes it easier to realize the key signature and correct notes spelling quickly. While it represents a secondary information, not essential for playing, its graphical appearance is quite subtle contrary to the traditional notation. It still allows to show all the informations that traditional diatonic music notation provides while keeping a nice and consistent look of the score.
